Academic Biography:

Ikhlaq Sidhu is the founding director of UC Berkeley's Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology and the 2009 Emerging Area Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at UC Berkeley. He is an authority on the process of innovation and technology management.

Within industry, he has held senior executive and technology leadership positions at U.S. Robotics Corporation, 3Com Corporation, and Cambia Networks. He was awarded 3Com's “Inventor of the Year” award in 1999, and has been granted over 50 US Patents in fundamental and broadly used areas of networking technology, IP telephony, and PDA functionality. Technology and intellectual property from his work has been cross-licensed to Palm Computing, 3Com, and UT Starcom. He was a founding member and Board Director of the SIP Forum organization.

Dr. Sidhu received his bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his masters' degree and doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University.


Project Areas Current applied research projects reside in the CET Venture Lab and CET Industry Lab. Some projects add translational value to U.C. Berkeley research. Other projects support new industry creation and major paradigm shifts with industry partners and venture capital firms. Project areas include electric vehicle infrastructure (Car 2.0), efficient solar power, and web commerce.
